The WWCC will become a requirement for course candidates, aqua instructors and teachers renewing their licenses as from the 1st of July 2016
The protection of children is paramount; safety from danger, hazards and risk is the essence of swimming and water safety education. So too is protection from abuse and harm. It’s with this focus that AUSTSWIM announces the introduction of Working with Children Check (WWCC) requirements for staff, course presenters and candidates, licensed teachers and aqua instructors.
This project is to understand the value of aquatic rehabilitation.
From 29 April 2016 properties sold or leased with a spa or pool must have a relevant compliance certificate.
Royal Life Saving NSW CEO David Macallister says it is critical people get more information from swimmingpoolregister.nsw.gov.au.
He points out up to 95% of ALL pools fail their inspection first time. He says this new awareness push is all about saving young lives because figures show in the past 13 years, 83 young children drowned in a backyard pool and a further 80 children have suffered neurological (brain) damage.
(Ultimately from April 29, if you are buying or selling a property with a spa or pool and don’t have a relevant compliance certificate attached to your contract of sale, your contract is incomplete and can be rescinded. If a landlord does not provide a compliance certificate as part of a new lease for a property with a pool, the lease may be invalid.)
The Australian Water Safety Strategy 2016-2020 has been launched by the Hon. Sussan Ley MP, Minister for Health, Aged Care and Sport in conjunction with the Australian Water Safety Council (AWSC) at Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club.
The Strategy continues the AWSC’s goal of reducing fatal drowning by 50% by the year 2020. It outlines priority areas in which Australian peak water safety bodies Royal Life Saving, Surf Life Saving and AUSTSWIM, AWSC Members and Federal, State/Territory and Local Governments must work together to prevent drowning.
Congratulations to Jacob Hansford on being selected for the Rio Olympics! Jacob trained at Atlantis as an Age group swimmer before moving to NSWIS at Homebush to continue his career. Jacobs younger brother Caleb still trains at Atlantis. Also a special well done to Adam Kable, Jacob’s coach who swam for and coached with Rod. We are very proud of both of them!!!
